Having debuted in 1996 on Richard D James’ Rephlex imprint, Global Goon lets rip on a new full length for Balkan vinyl with 14 tracks of wonky, eccentric acid-techno. ‘Soda’ is brilliantly deranged, with a squelching mid-range acid line sliding unpredictably through slow, dubby drum-machine beats with little let up. Cuts like ‘Dusty Sequence’ are tauter, with a muscular jack and offbeat cowbells propelling stranger snatches of squealing vocal samples unrelentingly onwards, while ‘Weather Flanghe’ goes even further, with huge swooping acid siren bursts and nagging vocal stabs.
