Atom Eye, London-based sound experimentalist Elsie Martins, emerges after a year in the studio with her terrific debut album for Forwind. Martins’ cinematic compositions, heavily influenced by film soundtracks, are crafted out of field recordings, tape loops, and ghostly vocals and embellished with treated guitar, saxophone and drums. Indeed, ‘The Otolith Sessions’ plays out like a movie in your head, with dynamics ranging widely from tense, drum-less soundscape ‘15’ to pulsing, hazy techno on ‘Prelude’. Also worth checking are hypnotic drone-piece ‘1?’ and ominous post-rock flavoured ‘3¾’.
