London-based producer Michael Greene aka Fort Romeau steps up for the always-interesting Live At Robert Johnson imprint with a trio of slick house anthems. ‘I Knew’ is built around an aching vocal sample and sports a deep bass line, emotive synths and shuffling drum work that coalesce into pure dance floor perfection. On ‘Pirouette’, thick disco bass is looped under punchy drums to craft an unusual, but driving middle cut. The best, however, is saved for last here on the extended, atmospheric closer ‘Her Dream’. Greene supplies a crisp 4-4 beat and rich synth bass line that never get stale over the 7-minute playtime, then masterfully adds and subtracts layers of diced up female vocals and chromatic keys.
