Seb Rochford’s trailblazing jazz outfit Polar Bear make their long-awaited return to the Leaf Label, following 2010’s critically-acclaimed album ‘Peepers’. ‘In Each And Every One’ might just be the group’s strongest statement to date, traversing a characteristically wide range of influences, from hip-hop to avant electronics to free jazz, with an astonishing cohesion. Many of the album’s cuts impress in their rhythmic drive, with ‘Be Free’ an eccentric take on jacking disco, and ‘Chotpot’ concocting a similarly mischievous and heavy groove. However, the group are at their best on the droning beauty of ‘Open See’, or on the strange, slow and melancholic ‘Lost in Death, Pt 1’.
