Cyclobe’s 2003 follow-up to 1999’s successful ‘Luminous Darkness’ proved that the outfit still had life in them yet, and revisiting it more than a decade after its release remains a delight. ‘The Visitors’ is a dark and hallucinatory trip where muscular electronics and more textured washes combine in volatile patterns, producing a strange sense of abstract narrative. ‘First Memorable Conversation With A Chimera’ is an epic survey of degraded electronic rubble, with cruddy glitch shuffles cut through by periodic bursts of searing high sine tones. The group also show a more cinematic side though, with the gorgeous string drones of ‘If You Want To See Nothing Is Left’ and ‘Son Of Sons Of Light’ opening up this often aggressive album.
