Enigmatic Swedish duo SHXCXCHCXSH return for their fourth release on the Avian imprint, with three slabs of uncompromising industrial techno. ‘VVVLLLLVVV ‘ is pummelling but immaculately-produced, retaining the thrill of AnD-style aggression in its unrelenting synth kick but adding an extra level of detail in its subtly panning distorted claps. ‘MRRRWRRRDS’ is a more understated and sinister affair, with a shuffling metronomic pulse, leaving space for atmospheric drones to linger and distant cowbells to make their mark. Closing track ‘MRRRCHNNNN’ pulls both tricks at once, startling in its combination of heavily distorted tom attacks and layers of textural detail which reveal more and more on each listen.
