The importance of Bob Dylan's 1963 album The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan is well known - opening with the now iconic '60s anthem 'Blowin' In The Wind', taking in the gritty poeticism of 'A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall' and the lulling 'Don't Think Twice It's Alright', it's an album that has come to define the protest movement and Greenwich Village folk scene from which it grew. However, its also an album that goes far beyond its social context. These are songs of finely wrought melody and universal lyrical and emotional clarity which still resonate today. Bob Dylan here proved himself a songwriting talent far and beyond the abilities of most of his peers, while simply armed with a guitar, a harmonica and a voice.
