A mysterious young techno producer from Brooklyn with a cult following, Clay Wilson is a former session bassist who’s played with Herbie Hancock and Alice Coltrane. Whatever jazz tips he’s picked up have carried through to his electronic compositions, and on this 12" by his home city’s Bunker club he pulls off some classy tricks: ambient house on the hypnotic ‘E4’; crackling but intimate techno on the deep, minimalist ‘Socorro’; stripped down fluttery beats on ‘Oizumi’. Managing to blend psychedelic vibes with warm house and skittery beats, Clay Wilson’s cult looks set to spread beyond the Big Apple.
