Having graced Will Bankhead’s The Trilogy Tapes imprint with a standout EP and released for numerous intriguing labels in the meantime, Detroit producer MGUN returns for a third EP to Don’t Be Afraid, entitled ‘Resin’. Over the EP’s six tracks, the producer shows a real range and depth, from the woozy ambience of ‘Asssumptions’ and ‘Flutter’, which are ghostly traces of melodic elements from house and techno, to intense four-to-the-floor excursions on ‘Funkshun’, ‘Migraine’ and ‘In the Road’. The highlight is the closer ’90 Sumtin’, which provides a wide-eyed end to a harsh and distorted record in its simple jack and deranged plucked synth line.
