The excellent Touch imprint teases out a typically brilliant and esoteric release courtesy of Jana Winderen. Winderen’s 40 minute composition ‘Out Of Range’ is a collection of ultrasound recordings from bats, dolphins and more, audio-stretched so that they enter the range of human hearing, and was premiered in January 2014 at Berlin super club Berghain. Though it takes its cue from the natural world, the composition’s final form achieves an intriguing mixture of these textured field recordings and more synthetic elements, a result all the more magical given that these digital squeaks and pops are somehow already occurring in our surroundings, but unheard.
