York experimentalist Lucy Gooch returns to Fire Records for her debut LP entitled Desert Window. Built up from vocal improvisations inspired in part by middle English poetry, surrealist novels, and contemporary prose, Gooch often pushes her voice into fascinating shapes in search of something beyond the horizon. Blanketed by music that evokes jazz, folk, ambient, classical, electronica, and plenty else in between, Desert Window is her most expansive work to date. Tracks like the two-part ‘Night Window’ move glacially, with strings and horns holding firm as Gooch glides and coos over the top like a curtain blowing in the wind, while the shimmering ‘Our Relativity’ points dreampop towards the heavens with its otherworldly glow.
