Gran Canaria DJ/producer Carlos Sánchez makes his debut for Poker Flat with this lethal four-track house EP. ‘Yesterland’ hits the ground running with ominous 4/4 beats, stream-of-conscious spoken word lyrics (“The egocentricity of the French/The waitress looks like a bookworm/You take what you want”) and an emergent bass hook that swoops lower and louder, eventually sweetened by chirpy synths. ‘Surrender’ is lighter, sprinkling shredded percussion across looping, melodic low-end, while ‘Conclution’ thuds, buzzes and bounces like an art movie soundtrack after eating a few disco biscuits. Another killer set from this rising Spanish star.
