A UK garage producer who rose through the breakbeat hardcore ranks, London based Whistla gets the honour of 110th release on the label he founded, L2S. This is a diametrically opposed double-header, with vocal chops and a scissoring 2-step beat setting the scene on ‘Alright’ before opening out into deep looped pizz strings and a strong synth melody. Flipside ‘Dancing With Martians’ plays like a ‘90s techno rhythm with a gremlin in the works, the slipping beats coloured in by chiming keyboards and house bass pads. Like every previous scene Whistla’s had a hand in compressed into two tracks, the ‘Alright’ EP is a sonic hypo for anyone who’s missed the last fifteen years of dance music.
