Soul Jazz Records present us with a new collection of a hugely funky and intriguing material entitled ‘Inner City Beat: Detective Themes, Spy Music and Imaginary Thrillers 1967 – 1977’. Each piece on offer has been compiled from British library music companies who regularly provide to television and film around the world with sounds ranging from thick, bass-heavy jazz jams to infectious, stick-in-your-head theme music. Dave Richmond sees his stalking ‘Heavy Lead’ included along with the more upbeat and racy ‘Gotta Getaway’. Accompanying the authentic selection of music is a 60-page graphic novel from the notorious 1960s writer Mark ‘Badly’ Antringham that tackles a corrupt and violent 1960’s East London.
