Karen Gwyer returns to the No Pain in Pop imprint on which she made her debut with an EP of physical yet emotive analogue techno. ‘Lay Claim To My Grub’ is a lengthy dancefloor workout which sets the tone beautifully, with shuffling claps and toms itching incessantly forward amongst church organ synths and more expansive washes of bass which adhere to the most basic of club pleasures whilst never sounding generic. With ambient interlude ‘Nail Bars Of the Apocalypse’ allowing a moment of organ chorale respite, ‘Missisissipippi’ closes this excellent collection with a darker, slower palette, focusing on slamming walls of low synths and industrial beats.
