Brooklyn-based, Fifth Wall Records affiliate Hound Scales debuts on White Asega Records with a gritty release of rough and ready warehouse tracks backed by a huge remix from UK techno specialists Forward Strategy Group. First we’re confronted with ‘Odile’, a growling piece concentrated around a raspy beat, spacious chords and the cries of a edited vocal sample; ‘Howard Hughesian’ is harder still, focusing squarely on the snarling mechanical stomp. On the other side, ‘Thinner’ hypnotises with hard hammer blows and a light helping of chopped R&B vocals whereas FSG’s take on the track drives forward with the clinical precision of a surgeon.
