The Smile take a victory lap after last year’s acclaimed Cutouts LP with this new remix 12” featuring two standout tracks from their third album. The Smile (which features Radiohead principles Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood, but don’t call it a side project) tap two members of their extended artistic universe for these new versions in James Holden and Robert Stillman, both of whom have either opened for or remixed the duo of Yorke and Greenwood in any number of formations. It’s a family affair then when Holden flips the the placid minimalism of ‘Don’t Get Me Started’ into a jazz infused electronic suite complete with kicks that almost approach footwork-level intensity, while Stillman turns ‘Instant Psalm’ back on itself with kaleidoscopic folk tapestries.
