The National release another single from 2013’s universally acclaimed Trouble Will Find Me, this one backed by a superb non-album cut. On ‘I Need My Girl’, singer Matt Berninger clings to a loved one during difficult times, his aching baritone backed by rich acoustic guitar, strings, organ and minimal electronic percussion. Perfume Genius-cover ‘Learning’ only slightly changes the original, adding an airy trombone and effective sing-along style backing vocals. The world-weary lyrics benefit greatly from Berninger’s mature tone and tender performance.
