Bristol group Quade returns to the AD93 label for a new LP entitled The Foel Tower. Recorded in relative isolation in a Welsh mountain valley stone barn, there’s a hushed ambience dwelling in these songs, strain to hear and you can almost make out the crackling fires the four-piece huddled around each night. Drifting between haunting folk, post-rock, and dub, Quade open up their sound gracefully here, and the calming environs combined with Quade’s long standing friendship outside the band added a sepia-toned vibe that’s reflected in the evocative cover art. Named after an actual stone structure once used to gather water from a nearby reservoir, the Tower helped ground the group’s thematic ideas about conservation, ecological oblivion, and the price of municipal expansion.
