People have been comparing dubstep producer Joker and multi-instrumentalist/mixtape king Swindle for years, so it was perhaps inevitable they’d one day get their heads together. It’s finally happened on Elijah and Skilliam’s Butterz label, and sounds ferocious: a funky guitar line that drops into lumbering, ear-splitting synth stabs and the loosest of hip-hop beats on ‘Let It Be Known’, and on the flip, the faster, pad-powered ‘Minors’ where Joker unveils one of his trademark hoover arpeggios. Hopefully the first of more future hookups, the 040 name comes from the bus route that ended up introducing the pair. Think about that the next time you take public transport.
