Bristolian Benjamin Jacobs, aka Crackazat, arrives on the Local Talk label with a strong EP of bumping skewed house, with every track oozing real pleasure. Title track ‘Candle Coast’ is the most conventional of the three, with a strident male vocal sample preaching of a funky house shuffle and Floating Points-esque jazzy synth stabs. ‘Silent Sing’ continues the wide-eyed optimism with bubbling drums and bursts of attacks which sit somewhere between Super Mario effects and Detroit synth strings. ‘Dancecrocodile’ impresses most though, with a slick cowbell funk that recalls Bookworms’ work, powering taut stabs of jazz keys and lusher house elements.
