San Proper returns to Rush Hour for his first offering since his 2012 full-length Animal. The Amsterdam producer follows in the footsteps of fellow Dutchman Aardvarck, making eccentric club music that draws liberally from different genres, and never taking himself too seriously. ‘Wicked Bushes’ is house music made by an assembly line of robots, quirky samples clicking, clanging and whirring unpredictably, while the off-kilter ‘Sirene’ is made by the seemingly random effects looping throughout. The EP’s biggest surprise is the meditative guitar piece ‘Thirty Bucks’, which hardly qualifies as club music, but the frantic energy of ‘Hitch House’ confirms that dance floors are still the main target.
