Bryn Jones (aka Muslimgauze) first released the brooding ‘Drugsherpa’ in 1994 on Staalplaat, and this reissue surrounds it with unreleased material from the time, breathing fresh life into one of the most potent offerings in the artist’s sizeable catalogue. The stuttering chimes, distant folk melodies, and sinister tribal percussion which dominate the twenty minute title track have only become more powerful over the decade since release, sitting well within recent releases from the likes of Helm and Black Rain. Amongst a mass of re-releases of Muslimgauze’s work, this may well be one of the most special.
