Lex Records, purveyors of idiosyncratic electronic music, bring us the debut EP from anonymous producer Wertheimer. ‘Brandished’ is a nine-minute aural assault, its snaking bass line winding a path through machine gun percussion, wailing FX, neon synths and wave after wave of samples. On the altogether less abrasive ‘French Styrofoam’, a retro keyboard sample is expertly diced and laid over bouncy drums. Minimal closer ‘On Black Glue’ makes great use of ghostly vocal pads as the melodic element, but as with rest of this introductory EP, it’s the artist’s deft sampling and tricky drum work that seize your attention.
