Paris born, Montreal based producer Valentin Stip unveils his debut album, the first full-length on Nicolas Jaar’s Other People imprint. Stip’s swirling, hypnotic music falls squarely in the middle of dub techno, downbeat and ambient. The emotive pads and churning electronics of opener ‘Tableau II’ bleed into slow burner ‘Pendule’, which calls to mind vintage Rhythm & Sound. Stip’s piano playing first appears on ‘Aletheia’, where it subtly accompanies wailing samples and conga led percussion, and is used again to great effect on the climatic title track. Other standouts include the intensifying backwards samples of ‘Aveu’ and the warm electronica of ‘Regards sur l'enfance (I et II)’.
