Chris Douglas’ third album and debut for the PAN label is a ten-track tribute to Wai Cheng, founder of the Californian electronica imprint Isolate, which references Douglas’ previous musical incarnations. A more intricate yet madcap descendant of his releases as OST, ‘Niaiw Ot Vile’ plays with a bizarre violin/glitch dirge on ‘Noscrlu’, serene pads on ‘Seit Nuin’ and blasts of euphoric chiptune on ‘Ciaradh’. Like a cross-section of modern inventive electronics, ‘Niaiw’ makes one hell of a musical eulogy and is perhaps the best possible tribute to Cheng’s legacy: a 21-gun salute written on laptops.
