Luke Younger’s releases as Helm for Bill Kouligas’ brilliant PAN label were central to the imprint’s appeal, and ‘The Hollow Organ’ delves into the darker side of the producer’s sound hinted at on ‘Impossible Symmetry’ and ‘Silencer’. Lead track ‘Analogue’ layers separate slams of distorted metal until they collapse into languid string drones, while ‘Spiteful Jester’ has a sinister industrial groove subdued behind a wall of sandpaper noise. ‘Carrier’ and ‘The Hollow Organ’ bookend the EP with a more erratic sense of pacing which serves to release the pent-up tension of Younger’s locked grooves rather elegantly.
