Mysterious Hackney bedroom producer Peh Per Ghost bravely ventures outside on his first EP for Five Easy Pieces. The newcomer’s music is an intensely personal mix of hushed, R-n-B influenced vocals, spectral grooves and atmospheric production. The spacious guitar and minimal house rhythms of ‘Tin Can Calm’ invoke early XX, while ‘Submerge’ slowly builds to the sort of stadium-sized emotional climax that Mount Kimbie specialize in. The memorable hook on ‘Fall Off’ unfurls against a swirling, atmospheric backdrop, and on closer ‘Blunt Needles, Scratch Video’, acoustic guitar and pulsing percussion are washed over by crashing, cathartic drums.
