To say Todd Osborn is a big name in US drum & bass is an understatement: he owned the highly regarded Dubplate Pressure store and ran the first D&B record outlet in Detroit. This latest EP, his first for FaltyDL’s Blueberry Records, sees him soak up a little of the label’s Brooklyn city funk, with zappy 4/4 electro-disco beats on ‘5thep’, and dirty industrial marching on ‘What Is Love’. On the B-side, ‘752am’ winds things down with a sparky but mellow harpsichord mashup and vocodered hip-hop on the title track. It seems Osborn can’t go wrong whatever genre he tries his hand at.
