This archival release from Kevin Drumm sees the artist exploring ambient fragility rather than punishing walls of lacerating noise, and comes issued via Peter Rehberg’s experimental bastion Editions Mego. In both parts of ‘Shut In’, layers of overtones build from simple held tones which vibrate against one another to produce poignant frictions. While ‘Part 1’ employs undulating sine tones and faint church organs beautifully, ‘Part 2’ is simply mesmerising, with the higher harmonics of a held drone refusing to sit still, constantly shifting one’s perspective of what, on the surface, might appear an incredibly simple 15 minutes of music.
