Former guitarist of drone collective Emeralds Mark McGuire releases his new LP Along The Way via the ever-productive Dead Oceans Imprint. As with the 2011 Editions Mego LP Get Lost, here McGuire experiments with various types of guitars, drum machines and other instruments for an explorative release. The twelve-minute epic ‘The Instinct’ hypnotises through mind-melting, celestial guitar play for a kosmische style journey (think Ash Ra Tempel’s Inventions For Electric Guitar). Norwegian extraordinaire Prins Thomas takes up remix duties, picking out the guitars of ‘The Instinct’ and adding his own bouncy beat for an extended session of space disco. 'Wonderland Of Living Things' is a more playful affair full of sprightly twanging strings, while 'The Lonelier Way' takes soulful vocals and buries them under warm waves of noise. An enchanting album.
