Glasgow-based producer Jon Phonics teams up with Tabanca for an excellent EP of soulful downtempo numbers for the Push and Run imprint. ‘Domino Effect’s title track recalls Arca in its persuasive mixture of 8-bit arpeggios, sweet organ swells and a soaring heart-on-sleeve vocal, all carried off with carefully employed reverbs. ‘Mind Games’ is a little more on edge, with surging synths and huge claps pushing on another opulent vocal, while ‘With Direction’ focuses the jazzier elements of Jon Phonics’ palette into an extravagantly pleasurable slow-burner.
