Laurent Garnier, recording under his surname, teams with Still Music for a set of tracks dedicated to the city of Chicago, the label’s home base and a storied hub for techno and house. Garnier, whose own style was greatly influenced by the city’s scene, channels classic imprints like Trax and Dancemania. Anthemic opener ‘Bang (The Underground Doesn’t Stop)’ features a propulsive bass line, uplifting synths and crisp layered percussion. The grittier ‘Boom (Chakolak)’ is built around busy 909 drum work and vocal snippets, while the rugged ‘Beat (Da Boxx)’ perfectly captures the spirit of Windy City tech down to the claps.
