In 1999, Boston dubstep curioso AxH picked up a PlayStation controller and made some tentative beats (possibly on the leftfield-endorsed Music 2000 - remember that?). He’s since emerged as a contender on the US bass scene, with his first release for legendary London dub label Tempa featuring pictures of the bad guy from Rocky IV. The four cuts here hit just as hard as Ivan Drago did: eerie 8-bit samples and hulking low-end on ‘Giant Footprints’, spooky string loops and bass like a snoring tiger on ‘Everdine’; ominous bongos peppering the title track.
