Midland’s anthemic ‘Play The Game’ gets the EP treatment courtesy of Phonica Records. The title track has all the telltale signs of a showstopper, including a sensual Burial-esque vocal snippet, tension building starts/stops and huge drops. Holland’s Dexter chimes in with an excellent remix that strips away everything but vocal and a wisp of melody, slows them down and buries them under vacuum-distorted bass, neon synths and acid stabs. Elsewhere, ‘Head Down’ and ‘Leitmotif (Midland Remix)’ showcase a deeper dub-techno sound, and more earworm vocal samples.
