Fresh off a pair of releases that saw him design sounds to reanimate the feeling of actual places, the 13 label has Rod Modell’s 2023 collaboration with Taka Noda back on vinyl to kick off 2025. Glow World is, in essence, an effort by the two musicians to create a perfectly beautiful sonic world that is then tarnished (or maybe made even moreso) by the harsh industrial and urban sounds we tune out in our daily lives. Tracked as ten untitled movements, Glow World is built up from little more than piano, bass, and the occasional soft patter of a drum machine, all of which threaten to get swallowed by these “damaging” field recordings, and yet there’s a strange serenity in this struggle for space, each pulling beauty out of the other.
