The end of a grand trilogy, and perhaps The Weeknd project altogether, is finally upon us. Following his highly lauded artistic reinventions on After Hours and Dawn FM, Hurry Up Tomorrow consigns Abel Tesfaye’s persona to the flames with some of his smoothest vocals to date. Slick and glittery synthpop abound, ticking trap rhythms merge with rich layers of atmospheric electronics on ‘Timeless’, meanwhile ‘São Paulo’ is infused with elements of baile funk (alongside megastar Anitta) that takes The Weeknd out of his staple synthpop / R&B blends and into kinetic world of Latin club burning with boisterous bass.
