Bleep

Following the song-based success of debut LP ‘Playin Me’, Cooly G returns to Hyperdub with a tauter set of rhythmic club workouts. ‘Molly’ is a shuffling up-tempo house number that dispenses with all but the most essential elements of the medium, with flanging mid-range synths and jacking percussion adding up to much more than the sum of its parts. ‘Hold Me’ adds solemn 808 cowbells into the mix, with ghostly traces of Cooly G’s voice echoing poignantly over a shuffling core, but ‘Oi Dirty’ comes across most persuasively, with the producer wrenching a rawness from driving drums which serves as a beautiful contrast with the EP’s other tracks.
