Strut Records are well known for drawing attention to previously neglected areas of music, and this latest compilation exploring Haitian dance music of the '60s and '70s is just as much of a revelation as anything they have previously released. The compilation was put together under the guidance of DJ Hugo Mendez of the Sofrito collective, an East London group of producers and artists with a love of tropical rhythms but with a firm understanding of contemporary club culture. Its a diverse collection, the influence of American blues, ska, reggae as well of salsa rhythms blending together in complex, intricate arrangements for a sound like no other.
