Pre-order Information

Please note that pre-order release dates are estimates based on the latest information we have from our suppliers. Changes or delays are possible.

Steve Reich's music has found itself far from where it started: pieces like ‘Vermont Counterpoint’ are ingeniously worked into DJ sets by Björk, ‘Pendulum Music’ has been famously performed by Sonic Youth and Aphex Twin, and there's even a remix album featuring the likes of Coldcut, Howie B, and Nobukazu Takemura. It's all testament to his enduring, innovating presence in our collective music consciousness since his very first compositions in the 1960s, and his status as a pioneer of phasing, process music, and minimalism. Sixty years on since his fated ‘It's Gonna Rain’ piece got the tape rolling, Nonesuch release the most comprehensive catalogue of Reich's works to date with this 27 disc set stretching from the 60s to the modern day.

From simple language to glossolalic rhythm to the pure revolutions of tape, ‘Come Out’ ignited decades of exploration in bending and shaping sound through composition. The hypnotic nature of Reich's early phasing works seem to capture a transcendent mecha-human sound, a seemingly impossible, delicate dance between performers. Hungry to explore concepts across mediums and instruments, he injects the mathematics of music with vibrant colour in ‘Drumming’ and the magnum opus ‘Music For 18 Musicians’, their timeless twinkle and beauty rippling throughout. That magnificent sense of scope only evolves as time goes on, and Reich folds in influences from his Jewish heritage and NYC home.

The oft cited quote that Steve Reich is one of few living composers to change the course of music history becomes undeniable when his work is engaged with in this monolithic collection.
