Brooklyn abstract techno trio Archie Pelago are self-releasing this five-track EP - ironic given that it’s their most commercial-sounding release to date, paying tribute to the genres that influenced them while continuing to plough some very strange electronic furrows. ‘Chilly’ spices up a broken jungle beat with ambient synths, stuttering jazz bass and keyboards so distorted they sound vocodered; ‘Neighborhood Mephisto’ pushes the jazz feel even further with breezy trumpets and crisp digital drums; ‘D’s Diamonds’ goes further still with a bizarre vocal sample, sax solo and background trance pads.
