The Grönland label uncovers a lost gem in the evolution of electronic music with the release of these archival recordings from Holger Czukay entitled Gvoon - Brennung 1. Originally recorded at Czukay’s studio sometime in the 1990’s, these recordings were something of a gift to his colleague Arthur Schmidt, aka Gvoon. Schmidt’s stories of his time in prison inspired Czukay to synthesize music to match the experience. The gift, while well-received toiled in obscurity until a recent installation from Schmidt conjured memories of these unique offerings now further bolstered by a new version of the recordings on the reissue from die ANGEL, the project of Ilpo Väisänen of Pan Sonic and Dirk Dresselhaus of Schneider TM. A very suitable pairing with the original sounding something like cybernetic blues, the drifting pulse of these tracks does indeed still ahead of their time some 30 years after the fact.
