Merging with his new multitalented band, Perfume Genius ports pastoral instrumentation to a grubby parking lot on Glory, balancing the radiant with the rugged and real. Traces of Americana float at the edges of Mike Hadreas’s carefully constructed world, as coarse tumbleweeds of drums and buzzing twangs roll by the fraughtly gorgeous chamber pop arrangements. “What do I get out of being established?” he sings on ‘It’s A Mirror’, excising his doubts and telling of feverish, surreal intimacy with the tiptoeing pointillism of ‘Hanging Out’, or the waves of glowing strums and cloud soft harmonies dripping in gold in ‘Full On’.
