Terry Riley's 'In C' must rank as one of the best known pieces in modern classical composition. The minimalism masterpiece was composed in 1964 and consists of 53 short, numbered musical phrases, lasting from half a beat to 32 beats with each phrase repeated any number of times by the musician. Each of the musicians playing may decide on which phrase they play and at what time. It's a piece that has been re-interpreted and performed countless times - most recently by Adrian Utley of Portishead - and influenced other modern masters, from Steve Reich to Philip Glass. Now the original recording of the piece made in 1968 was been reissued by Pure Pleasure, giving a chance to own a truly special landmark moment in musical composition.
