The whimsical Austrian duo General Magic continue a fruitful reunion with their second comeback LP entitled Bosko. Out on Editions Mego, the imprint that followed its precursor Mego which General Magic members Andi Pieper and Ramon Bauer co-founded with Peter Rehberg, the album lands exactly 30 years after their legendarily experimental debut, whose reissue kicked off this (relative) flurry of activity. While no fridges were used as sound banks here, Bosko does retain some of their prior work’s flash-like and frazzled energy. The opening ‘Datna Eclat’ sands down hardcore rave until it sparks and fizzes like overworked machinery, while the unsettling ‘Club Duchamp’ short circuits entirely in a way that the French dadaist would have probably admired.
