German duo Oake follow up a strong first 12” for Regis’ seminal Downwards imprint with four tracks of dark, cinematic power. ‘Sehtohree Diin Chromtas Vehns’ pits massive swelling subs against a sinister ticking hi-hat, with both regularly appearing to be on the edge of tipping over into distortion, against bowed synth drones. ‘Wekanee Siin Redrech Enjenn’ further invokes gothic terror, with tom whacks that sit somewhere been bleak post-punk and tribal dub, and a breathy female vocal which finds itself uncomfortably in a brutal landscape. Both sides’ closing tracks push the sound to its fullest, with voices lodged into a harsh pulse on the A-side, and the record finishing with a wash of screams and controlled feedback.
