Demdike’s Stare’s brilliant Testpressing series has seen them concentrate more fully on the latent jungle and breakbeat influences which have always bubbled below the surface in their work. ‘Null Results’ wears its jungle influences more explicitly than the record’s A-side with breakbeats rendered strangely claustrophobic and static, trapping the listener within obsessive attacks which rarely spill over the barlines. A-side ‘Fail’ is the real treat however, and recontextualises jungle within noise in a way hinted at by the B-side’s effect. Here, submerged tribal toms spill out into high frequency rattles which gradually become harsh sine noise.
