Steve Spacek appears under his production alias for Ninja Tune with the excellent ‘Alone in Da Sun’. Judging by the title track, the single is much more relaxed and textured than his work as Africa Hitech with Mark Pritchard, with distant falsetto vocals rather than commandments dancehall variations. The single impresses by its specific employment of elements that hit hard, with a weighty sub line and a shuffling pulse which is increasingly filled with subtly grooving woodblocks punching through Spacek’s washes of soulful vocal layers.
