Texan producer Spencer Stephenson marks his debut full length as Botany with concept driven album ‘Lava Diviner (True Story)’. Sketched around the story of a religious group who pray for a volcano to erupt, Stephenson manages to intertwine the narrative of the LP to a similar arrangement, building a definitive beginning, middle and conclusion. Such parts melt into one another through surreal ambient breakdowns ('Per-Eon') and beat-driven cuts ('Small Keys'). It would be easy to associate much of the tracks with a kind of Brainfeeder or Flying lotus sound, however when picked apart the piece reveals aspects of new-age, progressive rock and blissful ambience too.
