Montreal electronic force Marie Davison returns to Soulwax’s Deewee imprint for a new LP entitled City Of Clowns. With the Dewaele brothers once again behind the boards, the album feels like a homecoming of sorts as Davidson plays around within some of the minimalist electro charged motifs of her earlier solo work. To wit: the icy ‘Sexy Clown’ lands somewhere between impenetrably chic pop and simmering acid, while the raved-up ‘Contrarian’ stacks layers of paranoia with escalating synths and ceiling-caving kicks before releasing the tension with groovy breakbeats.
